In the April 2008 issue of Fire Engineering(R), David N. Diehl wrote in his article titled "Improving Situational Awareness in a Fire Structure":
"Fifty-four firefighters lost their lives in the line of duty from May 1 through the end of August [2007]. Eighteen of the 54 fatalities were the result of firefighters being lost, caught, or trapped in structure fires. This four month period saw a line-of-duty death every 2.22 days. Firefighters lost, caught, or trapped accounted for a staggering 33 percent of the 54 fatalities incurred."
This entire website could be dedicated to firefighter near-miss, and worse, situations where firefighters got off of the hose line and were disorientated.
From the bottom, to the top of our organizations, none of us want to experience a "firefighter lost/trapped scenario".
At EXODUS Innovations, we believe in doing everything we can to make sure firefighters have every available tool to avoid being one of these casualties. We believe the next step in RIC Intervention should be RIC Prevention.
